“I’m running because I want to improve the lives of constituents in the 6th Congressional District just like I have improved the lives of my patients. Today, ruling class career politicians are ruining our country and making it less safe for our families. Everyone knows what the problems are. I ask you to give me the opportunity to fix them.”

Having some fun meeting folks on the campaign trail this weekend. Started Friday night up north with brother Tom and Paula in Algonquin and Cary. Saturday morning walked the dogs early then to work. Rounds at Elmhurst Hospital and Christ Hospital.
Went south to Hinsdale and brother Dan, Melissa, Jeff and volunteers helped with passing our petitions. Thanks to all who signed we hit 1000 today.
At St. Petronille in Glen Ellyn saw fellow usher Chet and got a blessing from favorite padre Father Art Maher on his 92nd Birthday. He still has a strong grip with his handshake. He asked me if I thought I would make it to 92. I told him if God willing and he keeps praying for me.

1100 minimum No maximum

So happy to see Father Maher is still with us, and thanks for great picture. I grew up with Father Maher at his first post at Visitation in Elmhurst. All we 2nd grade girls were "in love" with the handsome new priest! He stayed close with my mother, even after he moved on to other parishes. We have fond memories of his kindness.

You rock Dr.

What is the magic number of signed petitions in the 6th?

This morning did transplant rounds at Christ Hospital. Here with transplant nurse Rommel (on inset on screen) and Wele our Vietnamese Medical interpreter.

Our transplant patient only spoke Vietnamese. To be able to adequately communicate with her we used a Stratus Language System which remotely taps into a our medically trained interpreter to become a part of the medical team. Stratus interpreters take medical calls 24 hours a day and are huge help in providing care. The console is on wheels and rolls into the room. The squares on the screen are 20 different languages. You tap the one you need and up pops your medical interpreter. The patient and the healthcare team then communicate to each other through the interpreter.

Despite what Washington politicians say we have the best healthcare system in the world and it keeps getting better. I see it everyday.

Many politicians promise their constituents that they will provide them healthcare yet they have never taken care of a single patient. They don’t understand the problems or the solutions like someone who has actually done it.

From someone in the “trenches” of healthcare, I totally agree. You can only fix it if you live it.

Interesting, Doc. Thanks for sharing this cost saving innovation.

The one factor that never comes to fruition is reducing the cost of health care in the US. Whether a beltway politician or a prospective outsider, the healthcare industry is more bloated today then ever. There have been several more layers added over the past several years, and anything the government subsidizes inflates cost. Our healthcare system is a "cash cow" that many vendors feed off of, which means there's no real incentive in D.C. or in the private sector to reduce or contain the cost of healthcare in the US. It's not a healthy prognosis when the underlying condition isn't being addressed.
